The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating a fatal, officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson County.
Investigators say it started with an attempted traffic stop along Highway 26, between Watertown and Johnson Creek.
A passenger fled the vehicle when it was stopped momentarily. They were later taken into custody.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene while opening fire on law enforcement during the pursuit.
The suspect struck road spikes, eventually exiting Highway 26 at Highway 12 outside of Fort Atkinson.
Investigators say the suspect tried carjacking a civilian’s vehicle with a handgun before he was shot by State Troopers.
The suspect died from his injuries at the scene.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
