MILWAUKEE — Medical experts say an approved COVID-19 vaccine is on the horizon.
“It’s very likely that the Pfizer vaccine will be approved as early as December 10 and the Moderna vaccine as early as December 17, based on their EUA filings,” said Medical College of Wisconsin President and CEO Dr. John Raymond on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News. “I think we’ll be giving vaccine to frontline healthcare providers, first responders and some at-risk patients as early as the end of this year.”
Dr. Raymond estimates the vaccine will be available to the general population by spring of 2021.
“If we can get AstraZeneca’s vaccine validated and approved by then, it’s going to help a lot because there’s much more manufacturing capacity for that vaccine, which has not yet submitted its emergency use authorization application,” he said.
