A Kenosha police officer is expected to recover after being shot early Saturday morning.
The officer, identified only as a 30-year-old man with two years of service on the Kenosha Police Department, was responding to a call of a person entering a vehicle when the suspect shot him, according to a press release from the department.
That officer returned fire but it’s not clear whether the bullet hit the suspect as they fled the scene.
The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting and search for the suspect have been turned over to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is also assisting in the investigation.
