He directed the Green Bay Packers defense during the team’s successful run to a Super Bowl championship, but also to many of their mid-decade struggles. Now Dom Capers will start the new decade with a division rival.
Adam Schefter of ESPN says that the Minnesota Vikings have given Capers the title of senior defensive assistant on head coach Mike Zimmer’s staff. He will work closely with co-defensive coordinators Andre Patterson and Adam Zimmer.
While in Green Bay from 2009-17, the Packers finished in the top five in total defense twice – in 2009 and 2010, their Super Bowl championship season. They were also No. 2 in scoring defense in 2010.
But after that point, the Packers ranked often in the bottom half of the league in total defense:
– Worst in 2011
– 8th worst in 2013
– 11th worst in 2016 and 2017
2020 will be Capers’ 25th either as a head coach or in a defensive coordinator-like role in the NFL.
