MILWAUKEE – Brewers fans can expect to see some big names during the Bob Uecker Celebration at American Family Field on Sunday, according to his longtime friend and former NBC broadcast partner Bob Costas.
“There will be people on the stage (Sunday) who will be immediately recognizable to everybody in the ballpark,” Costas told WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News on Friday.
The last time Costas was at American Family Field was September 2024 when he spent several innings in the booth with his former broadcast partner.
“I knew that it would be Ueck’s last season at the mic,” Costas recalled. “I made it a point to come to Milwaukee and spend some time with him. My wife and I went to Bob’s house the next day and had lunch with Bob and Judy. We treasure the pictures we have from that day.”
“There was never anyone like him before he arrived, and there will never be anyone like him again.”
Uecker passed away in January. Costas was in touch with him in the days leading up to his death. Now, months later, Mr. Baseball’s beloved Crew lead Major League Baseball with 80 wins.
Perhaps Ueck has something to do with the team’s success?
“Who’s to say it isn’t so?” Costas responded. “They have as good a shot at (the World Series) as any team does.”
