Saturday marks one year until the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
Nearly 50,000 visitors are expected to be in Milwaukee July 13-16, 2020.
“On a lot of things I feel like we’re a little bit ahead,” CEO of the 2020 DNC Joe Solmonese tells WTMJ.
“The city, and in particular the way the arena and other venues are situated downtown, make it logistically very workable. More than anything, it’s going to create a space where it’s going to be an experience that everybody’s going to have the opportunity to be part of in one way or another.”
Solmonese says they are already working on security, catering needs, and recruiting volunteers.
“We are going to need 15,000 people in place to make this a success.”
He adds that there are already 5,000-10,000 people who are interested in helping.
“Conventions are an exciting thing. It’s a great opportunity and a real legacy for the city of Milwaukee for so many reasons.”
