Milwaukee aldermen grilled DPW officials this week about a snow removal effort some council members say is less than adequate.
Now, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is weighing in on the issue.
“Would I have liked to see it be better, of course I would. Everyone would,” Barrett tells WTMJ. “But I think most people understand that we went through an incredible amount of snow, freezing rain, very cold weather. And we're looking forward to spring.”
Barrett adding that the safety of plow drivers, as well as all city workers is something always being discussed.
Over the last year, the city has lost three police officers, a crossing guard, and a DPW worker.
“Several of them were accidents, several of them were obviously crimes. But I'm concerned for the employees. I am concerned. I think everybody should be grateful for the work that they do.”
Meanwhile, the city is still waiting to hear whether or not it will host the DNC in 2020.
“No news is no news. But as I've said before, we are certainly in the thick of this thing. I know there are some people grumbling nationally 'make a decision, make a decision.' I just want to them to make the right decision. And I happen to know that the right decision is Milwaukee.”
