Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Joel Brennan joined Wisconsin’s Midday News to discuss the state of the race after news broke that candidate Sara Rodriguez fired her campaign manager for filing inaccurate campaign finance reports
“I asked a bunch of questions yesterday. One of them was, is this not disqualifying?… The current biennial state budget is $100 billion. And it is complex and there are a whole bunch of moving parts. And if somebody can’t manage $600,000 of campaign contributions, it calls into question their ability and competence for doing it for billions of dollars.”
In the wake of the Rodriguez campaign shake-up, Brennan added that he reached out to David Crowley and Missy Hughes, who both dropped out of the race and endorsed Rodriguez, but said any decisions about those endorsements is up to them.
Brennan has been campaigning in northern and central Wisconsin this week and added that he’s talked to voters who are concerned amidst a narrowing democratic field and who can be successful in November.
“People are concerned about being able to address issues related to housing, the cost of health care in rural Wisconsin, the lack of access in places around the state… the fact that child care is going up… That’s the stuff that people really care about. But we can only address those things if we’re successful in the fall.”
Brennan wants to focus on the issues impacting Wisconsin and said he plans to use the July 28 debate to discuss his plans on health care, housing and education.
