ROUND LAKE, Ill.– A woman has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in a 25-year-old cold case involving the death of her newborn baby.

48-year-old Jennifer Lebron was arrested in Round Lake.

Her newborn baby was found deceased in a dumpster behind a grocery store on Rollins Road on August 26, 2001.

A different woman was charged for first-degree murder in September 2001. Investigators later determined that she was not involved, and it was dismissed in October 2001.

In early 2024, Round Lake Beach investigators reopened the case and submitted DNA of the child for genetic genealogy testing.

The testing identified a genetic match to an individual related to the infant’s father, which led investigators to identify the infant’s father and mother. The father is not suspected of any criminal activity.

Lebron is expected in court Wednesday.
