MILWAUKEE — After ending his gubernatorial bid, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said he remains optimistic about what political leadership can look like in the state.
Joining Wisconsin’s Afternoon News, Crowley said the decision to end his campaign was not financial, but rather “what is needed long term in order to win a race of this magnitude. We have just over 30 days and when I think about the rest of this race, I want to make sure that the best person who can win this race is in a position to do that if I can’t.”
Crowley endorsed current Lieutenant Governor Sarah Rodriguez stating her mission “closely aligns with what we were putting on the table during my campaign.”
The end of Crowley’s gubernatorial bid came as news broke that his counterpart, Paul Farrow, the Waukesha County Executive passed after a battle with a rare cancer.
Crowley stated that he built a relationship with Farrow early in his career, when they were both serving in the state legislature.
“We always had a close bond. We had great conversations, whether it was about policy, whether it was about our families or just have a good time. He definitely made a mark on myself…When you think about Paul’s legacy, of who we can become as Wisconsin, being able to put differences aside and really have conversations and build relationships, that’s something near and dear to me.”
