As Milwaukee gears up for the 58th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, WTMJ’s Jeff Sherman sat down with two people who help make the celebration one of downtown’s signature annual events — and a boost for local businesses.
First, Jeff welcomed Stacie Callies, executive director of the Westown Association, to talk about the latest developments in the central business district and how her team prepares for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with their partners at the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin.
Callies explained how corporate partnerships with brands like Guinness and Jameson have helped the parade stand the test of time among other marquee downtown events. She also discussed how local businesses are focused on ensuring safety and maintaining clear, welcoming sidewalks for paradegoers. One of the biggest boosts to the area, she added, has been the Baird Center expansion, which has helped bring conventions to Milwaukee and drive business downtown. Callies also highlighted the dates for this summer’s Milwaukee Night Market and talked about the search for additional corporate partners.
Next, Jeff spoke with Kelley Cramer, VP of Marketing at the Water Street Brewery Group — home to some of Milwaukee’s best-known bars: Water Street Brewery, The Brewery, Trinity Three Irish Pubs, The Harp, and Vagabond. Cramer described how these venues bring energy during parade weekend, tapping into their Irish heritage and festive spirit. As he likes to say, “Home is where The Harp is.”
Cramer also broke down changing drinking and dining trends, like the rise of mocktails and non-alcoholic beers. He explained that people are looking for more of a curated experience for their nights out.
