Ruby Scheuing, a Vietnam War Army nurse, served from 1966-68.
Scheuing went in with a two-year commitment of guaranteed assignment to Vietnam.
“As soon as they came out of anesthesia, they immediately counted arms and legs, and the first question they asked was where’s my buddy?” she said to WTMJ’s John Mercure.
“It was a pleasure and an honor to serve,” Scheuing stated.
She had the opportunity to take an Honor Flight in November of 2017.
“It was awesome. I traveled with my son, who’s a West Point graduate. It was just so great because I learned things that I didn’t know before,” Scheuing stated.
