Korean War veteran T.J. Wanta first began his training in Pensacola, Florida, where he attended flight school. He was then shipped to Japan and shortly after, the Philippine Islands.
Wanta said he flew seven different types of aircrafts while in the Navy, four propeller planes and three jets.
“The jets are simple to fly. We could teach a monkey how to fly a jet, if the truth be known,” Wanta said about his favorite kind of plane.
Recently, Wanta had the privilege of flying on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
“As you get older, you forget some of the good things in your life, but going on this Honor Flight, I’ll never forget it,” Wanta said.
