Veteran Alvin Flowers served in the Marine Reconnaissance. His job was to gather intelligence from the enemy.
“Many, many times,” Flowers stated when asked how often they were engaged by the enemy.
“Our pattern was seven days out in the field, three days in the rear, and we continued to do that for the whole 13 months I was there.”
Flowers wasn’t scared of dying, but rather being captured and tortured.
“All you know is to try to save yourself or your buddies out there. It’s beyond frightening, it’s terrifying,” he stated.
Flowers now helps veterans who struggle with PTSD. He states that he has survivor’s guilt.
“We survive and some of our friends didn’t, so I’ve always wanted to give back by trying to help other veterans.”
Flowers had the privilege of taking an Honor Flight in April of this year.
“This is a tremendous day for me,” Alvin stated on that day.
