MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee County Executive and Gubernatorial Candidate David Crowley directed the Community Reintegration Center to disable messaging features on inmate tablets over safety concerns for victims.
Crowley says the step will immediately keep “victims of violence safe from harm and intimidation.”
“I will not tolerate victim harassment or witness intimidation. That is why I am ordering the CRC and calling on the Sheriff’s Office to disable this feature until we are confident strong safeguards are in place to prevent misuse and protect victims,” says Crowley.
The messaging services have been ceased immediately. Crowley is encouraging the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office to also follow this plan of action.
CRC inmates are still allowed phone calls, video, and in-person visits.
