WEST ALLIS, Wis.– 53-year-old Craig Surdyk is charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors for breaking into a home and causing a 40 minute standoff with police.
According to a criminal complaint, Surdyk allegedly broke into the home on South 76th Street by smashing the front window. He then smashed a television.
When police arrived, they found Surdyk inside the home. He appeared to be hallucinating and was talking to people who weren’t there. He was also observed to be holding a knife, which he refused to drop.
At one point, he told officers he had a gun, and they heard a loud bang. It ended up being a heavy object thrown through a window, and Surdyk was not in possession of a gun.
He also claims that two other people were inside the home, which were never located.
He left the house after a 40 minute stand off with police. He fell off the front porch railing into the bushes, and then tried to walk away. He refused to drop the knife, before he was tased and taken into custody.
Surdyk revealed to police that he was under the influence of methamphetamine.
The resident of the home on S. 76th St. was out of town at the time. No one was injured.
He’s charged with felony armed burglary and failure to comply, and misdemeanor criminal damage and disorderly conduct.
