RACINE, Wis.– Two early morning semi crashes closed the highway in Racine County.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the first crash around 4:30 a.m. on I-94 just north of Golf Road.
Police say a Sprinter van was traveling at a slow speed partially in the right lane when it was struck from behind by a semi-tractor trailer, which caused the truck to travel across all northbound lanes, before it struck a center media barrier.
It then overturned over the median wall, blocking all southbound lanes. It caught on fire, leaking a large amount of diesel fuel.
All involved only suffered minor injuries. Two people were taken to the hospital, and third declined an ambulance and decided to seek independent medical treatment.
Deputies then responded to a second crash on I-94 just north of Highway K around 7:30 a.m. A semi-tractor trailer reader ended another semi-tractor trailer, also catching on fire.
One person was injured and taken to the hospital.
I-94 was fully reopened shortly after 10:00 a.m.
