WEST BEND, Wis.– The Girl Scouts of Wisconsin are increasing security after an employee’s husband was caught with drugs and weapons in their home at the campground.
According to a criminal complaint, 48-year-old Paul Henry David was in possession of marijuana, mushrooms, and firearms within reach of the couple’s two children. David’s wife was an employee at the camp living on the grounds.
No girls were harmed or affected by the incident.
In a statement, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin says the incident was an isolated domestic dispute.
They have also appointed a new site manager who is transitioning from Camp Alice Chester.
They also said they will be increasing security at Camp Silver Brook, including:
- Increased patrols from the Wisconsin DNR and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office
- A restraining order against David
- Reducing background check age requirements to anyone over the age of 14.
- Increasing frequency of background checks
- Stricter guidelines on safety and secure storage protocols
- Increased property inspection
David’s wife no longer works for the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin.
The statement read, in part:
“Our primary concern — now and always — is the safety of the girls in our care. We are committed to ensuring that our spaces remain safe for local Girl Scouts to explore and learn. We have safety protocols in place and every staff member and volunteer that is on our camp property is background-checked. Looking ahead to the 2026 camp season, we want families to feel confident sending their Girl Scouts to camp this summer. GSWISE maintains robust screening and safety protocols for all staff and volunteers who have authorized access to our camps or interact with campers. All additional actions will be in place well before summer camp.”
