RACINE, Wis. — No one was injured after a fire on the roof of a Pizza Hut restaurant in Racine.
The City of Racine Fire Department responded around 6:42 p.m. on January 26 to the restaurant at Washington Avenue and Perry Avenue on Racine’s west side for calls of a roof fire.
Witnesses driving by along with employees inside “noticed smoke inside the building prior to exiting and seeing the fire”. Fire crews found flames coming from the behind the south roof facade, and were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes.
The southern portion of the roof sustained major fire and water damage, while the restaurant itself had smoke and water damage. The estimated costs are around $100,000 in damage to the building, and about $50,000 in damage to the items inside the building.
No individuals or firefighters were injured in the fire, and the cause remains under investigation by a Racine Fire Department investigator.
