UPDATE 12/16/25 at 10:28p.m. – I-43 has been reopened to drivers in both northbound and southbound lanes. Crews have left the scene and the semi-truck has been hauled away.
UPDATE 12/16/25 at 6:50p.m. – The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reports the vehicle fire has been extinguished on I-43 in both directions near Good Hope Road.
Both northbound and southbound entrances are closed near the incident. Traffic is being diverted by authorities near Brown Deer Road and Silver Spring Drive.
UPDATE 12/16/25 at 5:45pm – The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office is providing additional information on a vehicle fire that has now closed parts of I-43 in both directions near Good Hope Road and led to a hazmat response.
Authorities say the crash that occurred around 5:09p.m. involved a semi truck carrying lead acid batteries. No injuries have been reported from the crash.
Heavy delays are also being reported northbound on Port Washington Road as cars are re-routed off the freeway.
Officials say the closure will take at least two hours to clear up.
RIVER HILLS, Wis. – A section of I-43 southbound north of Milwaukee is currently closed due to a vehicle fire.
The fire between Brown Deer Road and Good Hope Road was first reported to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation around 5:15p.m. December 16.
Additionally, the on ramp from Brown Deer Road to I-43 southbound is also closed.
Southbound cars are being re-routed off the freeway at Brown Deer. Delays are stretching north past County Line Road.
