MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee County supervisor has withdrawn his resolution to cut bus service on Christmas Day.
Sheldon Wasserman of District 3 said he changed his mind after hearing from riders who rely on public transit on holidays:
“Since introducing this proposal, I’ve heard directly from riders who depend on our buses on Christmas Day – people who need to get to work, to visit family, or simply to carry out the daily responsibilities of life,” said Wasserman. “These stories made it clear that this service is not a luxury, but a necessity for thousands of Milwaukee County residents.”
Milwaukee County Transit System provided about about 14,000 bus rides on Christmas Day in 2024.
Wasserman’s proposal would have saved MCTS only about $133,000 as the agency works to lower a budget deficit totaling over $9 million.
