UPDATE July 4: The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation has identified the suspect who was shot during this officer-involved shooting.
57-year-old Michael P. Wolski of New Berlin passed away on July 2 from his injuries.
Wolski allegedly confronted New Berlin Police officer Rick Helm at a parking lot on South Moorland Road near West Pleasant Drive on June 22, 2021.
Officer Helm was responding to a 911 call regarding a person with a gun, and ended up confronting Wolski, where Helm fired his weapon and injured Wolski. Responding officers treated Wolski before he was taken to a hospital for more treatment.
Officer Helm, who has 20 years of experience in law enforcement, is on administrative leave pending an investigation.

NEW BERLIN, Wis. — One person is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night.
According to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, police received a call around 10 p.m. for a report of someone with a gun.
Officers responded to the 4000 block of S. Moorland Road and confronted the person before shooting them.
Details leading up to the shooting aren’t immediately known.
The person shot was given emergency medical support and taken to a hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
