The American Civil Liberties Union is calling for the immediate resignation of law enforcement leaders in Kenosha after the police shooting of Jacob Blake and the killing of two protesters Tuesday night.
“The ACLU strongly condemns Sheriff Beth and Police Chief Miskinis’ response to both the attempted murder of Jacob Blake and the protests demanding justice for him,” read a statement from Chris Ott, Executive Director of the ACLU of Wisconsin. “The only way to rectify these actions is for both Sheriff Beth and Police Chief Daniel Miskinis to immediately tender their resignations.”
The ACLU accused Sheriff Beth’s deputies of interacting closely with counter-protesters on Tuesday, and criticized deputies for allowing the alleged shooter to walk free immediately after the shooting.
Should Chief Miskinsi and Sheriff Beth refuse to resign, the ACLU wants Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian to demand their removal with the city’s fire and police commission and Governor Evers.
