The Shorewood School District holds a news conference regarding weekend incident.
Original story:
A Shorewood woman has been arrested twice this weekend after allegedly getting involved with protesters and police.
Police say the first incident took place on Oakland Avenue just south of Capitol Drive around 4:30 p.m. on June 6, 2020. This was when one of the protests over the death of George Floyd was making its way through the village.
Social media footage shows the 64-year-old suspect approached protestors and getting into a verbal argument with them. It then shows her spitting at one of the protestors, causing her to back away and flee.
Our news partners at TMJ4 News report a witness saw the woman driving her vehicle towards the marchers when she decided to stop and park in the middle of the street, blocking their route, in order to go grocery shopping nearby.
Police say the woman was arrested and booked, but was released due to the Milwaukee County Jail’s COVID-19 pandemic policies.
The next day, June 7, police say they were called to the woman’s home just after 3:40 p.m. for a possible battery incident involving her. The victim claims he was protesting on the sidewalk when the woman approached and pushed him before going back inside.
Officers were able to get her out of her home and announced she would be arrested. This is when she reportedly resisted attempted to be handcuffed, and pushed her knee into an officer’s groin. After a struggle she was placed in a police vehicle and booked.
She was taken to the Milwaukee County Jail awaiting charges for both incidents. Shorewood Police are recommending battery, disorderly conduct, battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting/obstructing and officer.
