Road crews are taking the Memorial Day weekend off, but they will be back at project sites Tuesday. It will also include a number of new projects that will span the summer months.
One will be Highway 11 at the Burlington Bypass. All lanes will be closed starting at Highway 36 at the Walworth county line and extend east to Highway 83.
Crews will remove 6.5-inches of pavement, and replace it with 7.5-inches of new pavement. Work is scheduled to be completed by mid-August.
Another project will be on the Highway 83 bridge which spans Highway 16 in Waukesha County. A bridge deck replacement will result in the highway’s closure starting May 27, which is expected to last through mid-August.
Pavement removal starts this week with bridge decks removed the week of June 1st. Work is scheduled to be completed by early fall.
Three bridges along Highway 20 in Racine County will see work on them. Two of them between Highway 45 and County Highway C will have full replacements, and a third will have a bridge deck replaced. Additional work will have a cul-de-sac on the east end of Old York Road and Highway 20, grading and approach roadway work and new pavement markings.
Highway 20 will be closed between 45 and C, with the official detour using C, County Road A and 45. Construction is expected to last through the fall.
A portion of I-94 in Waukesha County will see surface work between Highway 83 west to the Jefferson County line. It will include a four-inch pavement removal and replacement, base patching and other miscellaneous items.
There will be overnight lane closures on the interstate, which will result in reduced speed limits. There will also be some off-peak closures of Highways 67 and 83 when work is being done near them. Work is expected to finish by mid-fall.
The final projects will be on West State Street in downtown Milwaukee. One will see the street between North 6th Street and North Market Street re-configured to a two-way street. A block-by-block daytime rolling closure will occur between Broadway and Old World Third Street to give crews room to remove existing pavement markings and paint new ones. A full opening is expected by Wednesday evening, with additional rolling closures expected through the rest of the week.
The other project will be a high impact paving project between North Old World Third Street to North 10th Street on Tuesday and Wednesday. Daytime closures will take place along the entire stretch until work is completed.
