Two new road construction projects will begin this week, one in Ozaukee County and the other in downtown Milwaukee.
For Ozaukee County, the Wisconsin DOT says various bridges will see work done on I-43 between State Highway 60 and the Sheboygan County line. Work will include improving bridge deck overlays, a bridge deck replacement for Ulao Parkway, and various others maintenance repairs and painting.
When workers are around, drivers can expect to see single lane closures on I-43 and adjacent crossroads over and under the interstate.
The only significant closure will be the ramp that connected Highway 60 to I-43 northbound. That will run until the end of June. The detour will use county roads W and V to connect vehicles to the interstate.
All work is expected to be finished by late fall.
The Milwaukee County DPW says they will begin a rehabilitation project this week on the North Plankinton Avenue Bascule Bridge over the Menomonee River. The project will see new mechanical components installed, as well as new concrete to replace the current pavement.
Starting March 23, traffic on North Plankinton between West St. Paul Street Avenue and South 2nd Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. There will also be three 14-day long full bridge closures during the project.
Starting March 25, the Plankinton/St. Paul intersection will be closed to traffic. Access to the Post Office and Pritzlaff Building will be restricted to coming from the south over the bridge.
Completion of this project is scheduled for late September.
