The coronavirus pandemic is forcing the City of Milwaukee to end in-person early voting for next month’s spring elections.
Starting Monday, March 23, polling places at Zablocki Library, the Zeidler Municipal Building and the Midtown Center will close.
In a statement, City of Milwaukee Election Commission Executive Director Neil Albrecht says they can no longer maintain sufficient staffing levels to ensure a safe or efficient public voting experience. He adds this decision reflects the critical balance needed between access to voting and the health of election workers and the public.
The Election Commission continues its encouragement for people to exercise their right to vote, recommending people use by-mail absentee voting.
Milwaukee residents can still request a ballot either online at myvote.wi.gov or by calling 414-286-VOTE. Online voter registration will resume across Wisconsin on Tuesday, March 24.
