A 55-year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning in Waukesha.
It happened just after 12:30 a.m. in the area of School Drive and Prairie Ave. According a press release, police were looking for a suspect involved in a forgery case. Police had attempted to get the man to turn himself in, but he refused and was threatening to harm himself.
An officer was able to locate the man and upon making contact, police say the man immediately pulled a knife and threatened the officer. That’s when the suspect was shot four times in the chest.
The man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No names of the suspect or officer are being released at this time.
Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack says based on preliminary information, he believes the officer risked his life in the situation.
The officer involved has over five years of experiences on the force and has been placed on administrative leave.
