JANESVILLE, Wis.– Four people are in custody over a child neglect case in Janesville.
The Rock County Communications Center received multiple calls around 1:30 p.m. Sunday reporting an unattended child walking around wearing only a diaper near Center Avenue and Johnson Street.
The toddler was found and taken to a local hospital.
Police searched the child’s home and observed concerning conditions before finding multiple other children in the residence.
Officers then found two adults, 34-year-old Lacey Lehmkuhl and 42-year-old Harrison Bond hiding in the basement behind a furnace under a blanket. Both had outstanding warrants for their arrest related to theft and were taken into custody.
The other children found in the home were released to a family member.
As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Catherine Waite and 37-year-old Justin Paul were also arrested for child neglect.
The investigation remains open.
