The House of Representatives passed a bill to help Americans get through the coronavirus pandemic with numerous aspects of aid and relief, a bill which was negotiated by both President Trump’s administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
However, four Wisconsin Republicans were among the 40 who voted against the bill, including Janesville Republican Bryan Steil. He says the bill misses a key guarantee for employees to be able to keep their jobs when the pandemic ends.
“At 1 a.m. (Saturday), we received a bill that would have massive implications on our economy. It does provide short-term relief. What we need to do is fix the bill that went through the house to make sure employees have their jobs when we get on the other side of this,” said Steil to Steve Scaffidi and Carole Caine on WTMJ’s Steve Scaffidi Show.
“We should have stayed in Washington and continued to address a very, very serious issue…and make sure all individuals have a job to return to when we get back on our feet.”
He praised parts of the bill, including health care aspects of it, but says he’s trying to fix the bill with other members of Congress and have the job protection provisions instituted.
