MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent Dr. Keith Posley says he doesn’t want the district’s coronavirus related closure to impact their students ability to learn.
During a press conference Monday (March 16th) morning, Posley said district staff and administrators would be on hand at a number of buildings during the entirety of the closure, which is expected to last through Monday, April 13th.
“We are working to make sure everyone gets what they need in this trying situation,” Dr. Posley said. “We will be here Monday through Friday from 11 to 1 o’clock each day in order to meet the needs of each of our families.”
Each grab-and-go site will include learning materials, as well as bagged lunches for students who otherwise would go without.
As for the effect this extended closure will have on the district’s graduating seniors, Dr. Posley says it’s too early to tell.
“We are working on the pandemic plan to get our seniors where they need to be,” Posely said. “I’m satisfied that we’ll be able to meet the needs of the over four-thousand seniors that we have in this district that will be walking across the stage.”
Posley says the district is in constant communication with local and state health officials in regards to the status of the pandemic and will follow their recommendations when it comes to reopening schools.
