Governor Tony Evers has set into motion the process of mobilizing at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Exposition Center in West Allis to create an alternative medical care locale in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Army Corp of Engineers is working with numerous contractors and subcontractors including Johnson Controls to create the facility.
As of Thursday morning, 112 people have died Wisconsin of coronavirus, with the majority in Milwaukee County. The county also has 1,500 cases as of Thursday.
“This alternative care facility will be a critical addition to the southeastern region of our state and will be essential to continuing to ensure our healthcare systems are not overwhelmed,” said Governor Evers.
There have been concerns that Milwaukee’s coronavirus case total would surpass hospital capacity with the growth of the pandemic.
