Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson called into Wisconsin’s Afternoon News to give his opinions on the hot-button issues facing Wisconsinites and Americans as they look forward to 2026.
The conversation opened with a discussion on the double-strike on an alleged drug boat from Venezuela. When asked his opinion on the legality of the second strike, Johnson said, “first of all, I haven’t even seen the video footage, so I really can’t comment on it. But what I do know is that the Maduro regime is an illegitimate regime.” He went on to say, “I completely support this administration’s policy of blowing these drug boats out of the water.”
The conversation then shifted to health care, specifically the future of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. Johnson pushed back on the idea that subsidies are disappearing altogether, saying only the expanded Covid era subsidies are set to expire. He argued that most people would revert to the original subsidy structure and said a much smaller group would see subsidies fully go away. Johnson called reporting on the issue misleading and blamed the law’s design for rising premiums.
The interview wrapped with a discussion on partisanship and executive orders. Johnson said Washington remains deeply divided but argued that progress comes from focusing on areas of agreement. He added that despite the political friction, he plans to continue speaking directly about issues he believes are being misrepresented.
