Foxconn will build factory for LCD Screens

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The Latest on Foxconn Technology Group's plans for a technology project in southeastern Wisconsin (all times local):

   1:20 p.m.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says Foxconn Technology Group needs to do a better job communicating its plans for a massive southeastern Wisconsin plant.

The Taiwanese company initially said it planned to build a plant to produce flat-screen panels. After some confusion this week about its plans, Foxconn said Friday that after discussions with President Donald Trump it will proceed with a manufacturing facility producing smaller screens.

Trump tweeted that it was “great news” for Wisconsin.

Evers says he spoke with Foxconn executive Louis Woo on Friday and he's comfortable that the company remains committed to Wisconsin. But he says there's “no limit to skepticism” if the company's messaging isn't coherent. He says his administration is stressing to the company that transparency is key in such a high-profile project.

State and local leaders have promised Foxconn an unprecedented $4 billion in incentives.

   12 p.m.

Foxconn Technology Group says after speaking with President Donald Trump the Taiwan company plans to proceed with plans to construct a plant in Wisconsin that will make screens that can be used for small electronic devices.

The news Friday comes after a week of confusion about Foxconn's plans in Wisconsin. The company had said last year that it was planning to build such a facility in Wisconsin, but comments by a Foxconn official this week that it was not building a factory in the state cast the future of the project in doubt.

Foxconn says after productive discussions with the White House, and a personal conversation between Trump and Foxconn chairman Terry Gou, it plans to proceed with the smaller manufacturing facility.

Foxconn says it will be an advanced manufacturing facility and the hub of its project in Wisconsin.
