Two teams from the cheese state are playing for the biggest prize in college basketball.
Both Greg Gard’s Wisconsin squad and Steve Wojciechowski’s Marquette men will get their chance to play in the NCAA Tournament with at-large bids coming their way.
Wisconsin, a No. 5 seed in the South region, will play the 12 seed Oregon Ducks in the first round Friday in San Jose, Calif. If they win, they will play four-seed Kansas State or 13 seed UC-Irvine in the second round.
Marquette, a No. 5 seed in the West region, will play the 12 seed Murray State in the first round Thursday in Hartford. Connecticut. With a victory, they would face four-seed Florida State or 13th seed Vermont in the second round Saturday.
Marquette and Wisconsin both make their first NCAA tournament since 2017.
Wojciechowski has not led MU to a win in a tournament game during his tenure. Gard coached Wisconsin to the Sweet 16 in 2017 after upsetting top-ranked Villanova in the second round, but lost to Florida in overtime in the regional semifinal round.
