It’s time for an NFL Bubble.
COVID cases continue to spike across America. They’re on this rise in the NFL as well.
Positive tests in the NFL used to be breaking news.
Now, they’re met with a concerning level of apathy.
The Broncos started a wide receiver at quarterback on Sunday.
The Ravens and Steelers game is still in serious jeopardy after being postponed for 5 days.
And, the Niners are homeless due to event restrictions within their own county.
There’s no easy answer. And, there’s no end in sight.
For the first time, competitive balance in the league is being significantly affected by the pandemic.
It’s palatable when it’s the Broncos or the Niners, who won’t sniff the playoffs.
But, the NFL will face a severe perception problem if the Chiefs, or the Saints, or the Steelers, or…the Packers run into the same problem that the Broncos did on Sunday.
Every other league has successfully operated inside a bubble.
It’s time for adults to be adults.
Control what you can control.
Bubble up for the playoffs or roll the dice on being the one league that failed to successfully navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.
