The Wisconsin high school sports season will begin with near-normal starting dates for numerous sports, but with the capability to make changes if necessary.
The WIAA passed a motion allowing practices to begin for seven sports in the fall on these dates:
– August 17: Cross country, girls golf, girls swimming, girls tennis
– September 7: Football, boys soccer, boys and girls volleyball
The first football games were initially reported to be on September 10, but reports now say those first games will be held in late September.
Students who attend schools starting the 2020-2021 academic year virtually will be allowed to compete at the same level as students attending school in person.
However, if schools are not able to prepare safely for teams’ seasons to begin, alternatives can be implemented for their seasons.
