Due to health and safety concerns, the decision was made this week to cancel the 2020 Wisconsin State Fair.
“It’s really a gut punch,” West Allis Mayor Dan Devine tells WTMJ.
“I think a lot of people weren’t surprised at the decision, but when you see it as a printed headline, it really hits home.”
Though frustrating for regular Fair goers and local vendors, Devine says ultimately it was the right move to make.
“You’re going to lose money by not having a Fair, but if you run a Fair and it’s not successful, that’s going to be even more costly.”
