Two five-year-old boys were killed due to gun violence this week– one in Kenosha and one in Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee boy reportedly got hold of a gun someone left out and accidentally shot himself.
This is the eighth child to have been shot in Milwaukee since the end of March.
That’s why Ascension has decided to partner with the Milwaukee Police Department and Project ChildSafe to prevent gun accidents.
Ascension St. Joseph Hospital is now providing free safety kits that include a cable-style gun lock, along with firearm safety information. The locks fit most handguns, rifles and shotguns.
They’re available free of charge at the main desk in the emergency department at Ascension St. Joseph, 5000 W. Chambers Street in Milwaukee.
Keli Anderson, a nurse at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital and the trauma coordinator, joined Wisconsin’s Morning News with more on the program.
