MILWAUKEE — A plane carrying dozens of rescue animals landed in Milwaukee as part of a nationwide “Clear the Shelters” campaign.
Approximately sixty animals arrived in Milwaukee on Tuesday from shelters across the country, according to the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) Executive Director Maggie Tate-Techtmann. HAWS is one of several Wisconsin animal welfare organizations participating in this year’s campaign.
“A lot of those shelters are facing overcrowding situations and really a lack of resources to support all of the pets in their care, which is where we come in to provide some assistance,” Tate-Techtmann said on Wisconsin’s Midday News.
Tate-Techtmann added that some shelters are facing overcrowding issues in part due to rising costs.
“I think we all see it and feel it when we go to the grocery store, when we go to fill our cars with gas, that costs are just rising. So we really want to support pets staying with their people.”
Tate-Techtmann also announced that thanks to a donor matching gift, all cat and dog adoptions will be $50 through the end of the month to help clear the shelter.
