Korean War veteran Tony Joachimczyk’s job was a painful one: To count bodies.
“It was fifteen to thirty below zero. We stayed outside all the time, I went there 215 pounds and in four months, I weight 167.”
Joachimczyk describes the cold, and sleeping in a four-by-eight trailer, as the two hardest parts of being in Korea.
He spent a great amount of time printing names down, and then three weeks later he would mark living, dead, missing in action, or wounded.
“It was a rough job; let’s put it that way.”
Joachimczyk had the privilege of going on an Honor Flight this year.
“It made me realize they appreciated our service in Korea.”
