Veteran Charlie Eads took Morse code in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. He worked up to twelve-hour days and he stated that his duty was to protect everybody.
“We were eighteen year told kids. It was the job we had to do,” Eads stated when asked if tracking the Viet Cong was stressful.
Eads’ homecoming was not easy.
“When I was overseas, I don’t remember what America was going through. We didn’t have the television like it is now and stuff like that. We didn’t see all that. And then when you come home, you just want to bury yourself. Nobody wanted us here.”
Eads went on an Honor Flight in October of 2017.
“It was probably the best day of my life.”
Through his daughter putting photos on Facebook, Eads was able to find two of the guys that he did not know if they had survived, and it was all thanks to the flight.
