Wisconsin knows how to do family friendly. From whimsical attractions to kid-approved stays, discover destinations worthy of staying up one more hour past bedtime. Here’s to making memories as a family.

Discover your unique Travel Style to explore Wisconsin

Travelers vacation in unique ways. Here in Wisconsin, you can travel in a style of your own and make memories in every season. Travel Wisconsin helps you find exactly what Travel Style you’re seeking, including ideas that are Family Friendly.

In Wisconsin, you’ll find big fun for little explorers — and everyone in between! Find endless ways to bond as a family doing things everyone will love, from waterparks and festivals to wildlife and hands-on museums. Today, we’re diving into summer travel recommendations that are fit for families.

A family affair at the 175th Wisconsin State Fair

Participate in a kid-approved tradition of summer almost as old as the state. The Wisconsin State Fair marks its 175th anniversary this year and runs August 6-16. The fair promises 10 days of fun and endless memories. You’ll find experiences and activities crafted just for the kiddos, like a Cow-Temporary Art Walk, the racing pigs arena and a family variety stage of jugglers, comics and more.

Channel your competitive side by racing down the giant slide and then savor the sweet side of the State Fair with a pack of the iconic Cream Puffs. Got out-of-state family and friends visiting this weekend. Head to the State Fair on Friday, August 7, for Celebrate Wisconsin Day.Out-of-state visitors receive two-for-one tickets on adult admission.

Find a fresh look at a family favorite in the Northwoods (Vilas County)

Pack the car and head to the Northwoods for an end-of-summer trip to The Waters of Minocqua. The family-friendly resort just unveiled a major renovation in May. This includes fully renovated guestrooms, a refreshed waterpark and a new look for the onsite restaurant. You’ll now find Northwoods-themed rooms with modern flair. Stay the night in a lofted suite that’s ideal for families.

Head out and explore the wider Minocqua area for tons of family fun. Settlers Mill Adventure Golf combines two classic summer treats — mini golf and frozen custard! The kids will love putting past waterfalls and around obstacles at this Western-themed course. Finish the round off with a scoop or two fresh frozen custard!

Want to get on the water without towing your own boat? Minocqua is full of rentals! Go with whatever watercraft matches your family’s interest and speed. Local businesses like Minocqua Marine & Powersport and Minocqua Pontoon Cruises & Rentals offer fishing boats, pontoons, jet skis and more for rent. Cap off your day back at The Waters of Minocqua roasting s’mores around the bonfire.

Wildlife, waterslides and sightseeing in Lake Geneva (Walworth County)

Fill your itinerary with all sorts of kid-approved activities on your next trip to Lake Geneva. Check out Safari Lake Geneva and watch the kids’ faces turn to looks of amazement and wonder. The drive-through wildlife park brings you up close to camels, giraffes, zebras, ostriches and other animals straight out of storybooks.

Head out on the water for entertainment and cool breezes with the Lake Geneva Cruise Line. The Ice Cream Social Tour and U.S. Mailboat Tour are popular options for families.

Book your stay at the Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark. The indoor waterpark is full of twists, turns, slides and a meandering river, while outdoor pools are open through Labor Day. It’s a perfect option for one more splash to summer.
