CUDAHY, Wis.— Classes were canceled Thursday at Cudahy High School after a school shooting threat circulated among students on social media.
According to the Cudahy Police Department, officers learned about the threat Thursday, November 5, and immediately increased their security presence at the school while launching an investigation.
Police determined the original post came from a student in Tucson, Arizona, around November 2. The Tucson Police Department investigated and arrested the student responsible for creating the post.
Authorities say the post quickly spread across multiple social media platforms before reaching students in the Cudahy School District.
Cudahy police acknowledged the concern and anxiety the threat caused among students, parents and staff. Police are also encouraging parents and guardians to talk with their children about responsible social media use.
“Officers were immediately dispatched to Cudahy High School to provide an increased security presence while an investigation was initiated,” police stated. “The safety of our students and school community remains a priority.”
