(Update at 12:35 a.m. on 11/3/26) MILWAUKEE — One person was shot and killed by a Milwaukee Police sergeant after allegedly driving into oncoming traffic and pulling out a gun on Monday night.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the shooting happened on Highway 175 near Lloyd Street around 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 2., where a sergeant saw a truck make a U-turn and drive south bound in the north bound lane.

Police say the sergeant called his observation into dispatch and attempted to make contact with the suspect, when the driver got out of the vehicle and displayed a gun.

“The sergeant fired his duty firearm, striking the suspect,” Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a media briefing. “The suspect was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

Police recovered the suspect’s gun at the scene. It’s unclear if the suspect fired the gun or only displayed it during the encounter.

The sergeant, a 37-year-old man with over 15 years of service, will be placed on administrative duty. Chief Norman said the sergeant was not wearing a body camera. He said police are reviewing other sources of video, which will be released in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure 575.

West Allis Police Department is leading the investigation.

MILWAUKEE — Part of Highway 175 in Milwaukee is shut down on Monday night, Nov. 2 as Milwaukee Police investigate a deadly officer-involved shooting.

All lanes of Highway 175 are closed in both directions from Vliet Street to State Street, according to an alert from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The closures are expected to last over two hours.

TRAFFIC ALERT: A full freeway closure is underway on WI-175 to accommodate an active investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department. All traffic is being diverted off h highway at Vliet St.
