MADISON– Dane County is issuing a public health alert over a spike in drug overdoses.
Public Health Madison and Dane County says there were five emergency incidents involving drug overdoses in the past 24 hours.
Several calls reported cocaine use…but first responders observed symptoms of an opioid overdose among patients which could mean that the make-up of street drugs in the area has changed.
The official reason is still unknown.
Officials recommend knowing the signs of an overdose, such as:
- Pale, sweaty or clammy skin
- Lips/fingertips turn blue
- Slow or irregular breathing: gasping, gurgling, or snoring
- Difficult or unable to wake
They also advise as not using street drugs alone and carrying naloxone.
