WATERTOWN, Wis.—- Watertown police are investigating after a Flock license plate camera was reported stolen.
Police say the camera was taken September 24. Flock cameras are used to capture license plates and can help investigators identify vehicles connected to crimes and located missing or abducted people.
The department says the theft is being treated as an attack on public safety equipment and that investigators will pursue criminal charges based on the evidence.
Police acknowledged there has been public discussion about Flock cameras, but say stealing or damaging the equipment is not a valid form of protest.
