It’s harvest time in California wine country but many growers in that region are struggling to sell their grapes as wine sales have decreased nearly 20% in the last five years.
Prices for grapes are dropping and it’s prompting some California growers to consider either harvesting at a loss or leveling the grapes altogether and growing other profitable products like walnuts or pistachios, even olives.
Grant Long, owner and operator of Aonair Winery in Napa Valley, joined Wisconsin’s Midday News to discuss why some California grape growers are considering shifting strategies.
