WEST BEND, Wis.–A 50-year-old man is in custody after allegedly lighting a crucifix on fire in West Bend.
Police responded at 10:20 a.m. on Friday, September 25, to reports of a man allegedly setting an object on fire inside the Pilgrim Lutheran Church near Meadowbrook and Sherman.
According to the West Bend Police Department, church staff confronted the man, and he left. Officers later arrested the man near the church.
Investigators found that the man allegedly used a lighter to burn the crucifix, causing minor damage.
Police said the fire did not spread and no one was hurt.
The man from West Bend was arrested on arson and recklessly endangering safety. He was taken to the Washington County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
