PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The UW-Platteville men’s cross country season is on hold as the school investigates allegations of hazing.
The university says head coach James Akita is on paid administrative leave until further notice.
“Our priority is to support students involved while ensuring this matter is investigated as thoroughly, fairly and promptly as possible,” said university spokesperson Melanie Platt-Gibson in a news release.
The university received the initial report late in the afternoon on September 1. Chancellor Tammy Evetovich was briefed the following day and decided to temporarily suspend all men’s cross-country activities and meets pending further review September 4.
Officials did not specify what type of hazing was alleged, but say they will offer support and counseling resources to students involved.
